A Welcoming Karate School in Norwich
Helping children, teens, and adults build confidence, fitness, and focus through karate training in a supportive environment.
Why I Started Martial Arts East
I started training in karate in 1999, and I've been teaching since 2003. Over that time I trained across the country and internationally, including at the JKS headquarters in Japan, and along the way I noticed something: a lot of clubs are built around the students who are already confident. The ones who pick things up fast, who aren't fazed by a new environment.
But most people aren't like that on day one. Most people are nervous. Some kids won't make eye contact for the first few weeks. Some adults haven't done anything like this since school and feel a bit silly walking in.
Martial Arts East exists for those people. It's built around the idea that everyone starts as a beginner, and that confidence isn't something you need before you walk through the door, it's something you build once you're inside it.
That's still what drives how we teach today, across every venue, every age group, every class.

More Than Just Martial Arts
Karate gave me more than fitness, it gave me focus, discipline, and a sense of who I am. That's what I want every student here to find too, whatever age they start.
