Our First Steps programme is a playful and structured introduction to karate for children aged 3 to 6. These classes are game-based and carefully adapted for younger children — keeping things fun while laying strong foundations in movement, focus, and confidence.
In each session, children learn basic karate techniques like simple punches, blocks, and kicks. They also develop key physical skills such as safe breakfalls, balance, and coordination. Partner work is introduced through playful drills that build control, awareness, and teamwork — all delivered in a friendly, age-appropriate way.
As they train, children naturally improve their coordination and body awareness through movement and structured play. They begin to build focus and listening skills by following instructions, which also helps prepare them for school settings. Social confidence grows as they work with others, learning communication and cooperation through partner-based games and activities. Most importantly, children develop self-confidence and self-control — gaining pride in their progress and learning to stay calm, respectful, and resilient.
We use a special coloured T-shirt grading system to help them track their progress in a fun, low-pressure way. When they’re ready (usually around age 6), they can move up into our Junior Shotokan classes and take the next step in their karate journey.
First Steps is a fantastic way to give your child a confident start — not just in karate, but in everyday life.
Our Junior classes are designed for children aged 6 to 13 and offer a fun, structured introduction to traditional Shotokan Karate. Whether your child is moving up from our First Steps programme or just starting out, these sessions help them build real skills, confidence, and discipline — all in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Training is based around the three core areas of karate: kihon (basics), where students learn strong technique through punches, blocks, kicks, and movement; kata (forms), which are set patterns of movement that develop timing, focus, and coordination; and kumite (sparring), where controlled partner drills help build awareness, confidence, and quick decision-making. Classes also include pad work, footwork, and agility drills to develop power, control, and sharp movement.
As they train, children naturally improve their coordination, balance, and physical awareness. They learn to focus and follow instructions, while regular structured practice helps build self-discipline and resilience. Working with partners and in groups encourages respect, teamwork, and good communication, and applying their skills in sparring teaches them to stay calm, think clearly, and move with purpose.
Students work towards their next belt through our grading system, with clear goals and regular feedback helping them stay motivated and proud of their progress.
Our Junior Karate classes do more than just teach great technique — they help young people grow into confident, capable, and respectful individuals both inside and outside the dojo.
Our Adult Karate classes are open to anyone aged 14 and up — whether you’re completely new, returning after time away, or already experienced. These sessions offer a focused, challenging, and rewarding approach to traditional Shotokan Karate, blending technical skill, physical conditioning, and personal growth.
Training includes all the core elements of karate. You’ll develop solid kihon (basics) through striking, blocking, kicking, and movement. You’ll learn and refine kata (forms), which improve body control, precision, and mental clarity. And through kumite (sparring), you’ll build timing, awareness, and confidence in applying your techniques with a partner. Classes also include pad work, drills, and conditioning to boost strength, agility, and stamina.
Karate offers a unique combination of physical training and mental discipline. It sharpens focus, improves resilience, and helps reduce stress through movement and controlled breathing. You’ll push your body and mind, building confidence as your skills and fitness improve over time. The sense of progress — whether it’s earning your next belt or mastering a technique — is incredibly motivating.
Everyone works at their own pace, and you’ll be supported by experienced instructors and a friendly community that values effort, not ego. Progress is measured through our grading system, but there’s no pressure — just steady development and the freedom to train in a way that suits you.
Whether you’re here to get fitter, learn self-defence, gain focus, or simply try something new, our Adult Karate classes offer a powerful way to challenge yourself and grow — both on and off the mats.
Our Family Karate classes are open to anyone aged 6 and up — a perfect option for families who want to train together, or for individuals who prefer a mixed-age, inclusive environment. You don’t need to have a family member with you to join in — these sessions welcome both children and adults, and the training is adapted so everyone can work at the right level.
Classes cover the full range of traditional Shotokan Karate training, including kihon (basic techniques), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). Students learn strong, effective technique through punching, kicking, blocking, movement drills, and pad work. Forms and partner work help develop coordination, timing, confidence, and control, with sparring introduced in a safe and progressive way.
What makes this class special is the shared energy — younger students benefit from the focus and example of older students, while adults enjoy a fun, flexible training environment that’s still challenging and rewarding. The structure allows everyone to train at their own pace, with plenty of guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to improve.
As students progress, they develop physical confidence, mental resilience, and practical self-defence skills. Whether you’re training with your child, alongside a friend, or just looking for a welcoming class with great people, this is a brilliant way to get fit, learn something valuable, and grow in confidence — together.
Progress is tracked through our belt grading system, helping students of all ages set goals, stay motivated, and celebrate their development.
